ST GEORGE’S WHISKY DISTILLERY
St.George's Distillery is home to the English Whisky Co. and became operational in November 2006 producing its first spirit soon after. It is the first whisky distillery built in England for over 120 years and it’s only just down the road!
WHY ENGLAND
Why England and more specifically why Roudham, Norfolk? Well there are only 2 main ingredients in whisky and they are both available in Roudham. The purest, cleanest water in the Breckland aquifer deep beneath the distillery along with the barley as Norfolk is one of the world’s premier growing regions.
The only other thing needed to create the very best malt whisky is oak casks. No colour or flavour is added, the barrels do that so only the very finest oak casks are used. Most of the barrels are supplied direct from America, having first been used for the maturation of bourbon. Other barrels used are sherry and wine casks.
WHAT WILL YOU FIND THERE?
You can take a tour of the distillery which ends with a slug of their finest malt.
For the connoisseur there is a tasting tour. Firstly you will do the St. George's tour with the chief whisky maker. You will then be taken on a journey of discovery that lasts 2 hours and takes an in-depth look at the distillery and barrel warehouses. All of this is taken with the chief whisky maker. You will then have an hour of tasting whiskies from around the world including St George’s
